LINOCUTS - JARMO KOPONEN - artist in residence
Jarmo is a Finnish born artist residing in India. He mostly taught him self how to make art and how to be an artist seeking for mentors and teachers around the world and over time in the various disciplines. In residency at gate44 he completed two wonderful large scale woodcuts, a portrait of his companion Urvi and a dreamlike and ancestral landscape entitled “garden”.
“My work could be considered autobiographical in a sense that the subject matter revolves around people, objects and places I have experienced. The starting point of all my art is the observation of reality, and I look for simplicity from the complexity around us.”
